Eric was pleased with his race performance finishing in 5:44:50.

Currently (as of May) Coach Brown has started adding Butterfly drills. He said it is a good option for getting ahead of the pack in the start of a triathlon swim. We won't swim over 200 or 300 yards Fly in any master's workout. These sessions have increased our endurance.

TriHawks Triathlon
We truly lucked out on the weather for the final triathlon of the season. The water temps weren't too bad either - 68 degrees. Flooding earlier in the season caused much damage to the road by the spillway creating for a mandatory reduced speed area on the bike course. We four athletes from Muscatine compete. Thunder Rolls Adventure Race 2008
Team "Muscatine Multisport"
(Eric Furnas, Cindy Klebe, and Connie Mann)
"We Survived!! Honestly we all agree that the adventure race was without a doubt the hardest thing we have ever done, but at the same time, the most fun. The day was broken up into a mountain biking, trail running/hiking, rafting, and canoeing, all with a map and compass to find the way to about 22 checkpoints. We did about 32 miles of mountain biking, about 16 miles of running/hiking with about half on trails and roads and the other half literally blazing our own trail through thick timber, thorns, creeks, and steep slopes. The rafting and canoeing added about another 10 miles. There was also one point where we had to cross Pine Creek at the grist mill in Wild Cat Den by way of tyrolean traverse. We finished in 12 hours and 8 minutes. There were 63 teams from 8 states competing in both the 12 and 24-hour races. The top 24-hour teams were just amazing and the top three teams were competing against each other to win a series and $30,000.00.

Muscatine was extremely well represented in Saturday's sprint triathlon held in Dewitt, Iowa. Temps were once again, almost perfect for race day. Humidity was low and temps were decent. LAKE GEODE CHALLENGE
On Saturday, July 12th, three individuals from our Muscatine Multisport group raced near Burlington, Iowa at Lake Geode in an Olympic Distance Triathlon. It was certainly a good thing that the rain storm moved through during the night. Race day temp was 75 degrees and it was overcast for the majority of the race. It did rain briefly before we entered the water. That didn't matter as it was a warm rain, and the water we were swimming in was even warmer -- it was 85 degrees. Wetsuits were not allowed. Geode is a hilly and challenging course for the bike and the run. This year's bike course was even hillier as the finish was additional riding within the park. We brought home three (3) first-place trophies!!!
Chris Mann - 1st place (19 and under) - 2:14:18
Eric Furnas - 1st place (Clydesdale) - 2:33:48

QUAD CITIES TRIATHLON
Of the 600 who registered, only 445 competed on Saturday at the Quad Cities Triathlon due to major flooding and road closures in and around us. I thought it was interesting that the Overall Male and Overall Female winners were husband and wife and were on the waiting list. They were only notified the evening before the race. They were extremely fast - Eric Ott's finishing time was 1:04:41 and his wife finished in 1:10:55.
